Block Upstairs Noise with High-Density Acoustic Membranes

Struggling with footstep noise or airborne sound from above? Our Ceiling Soundproofing with MLV Membrane is designed to significantly reduce sound transfer through ceilings by applying a dense, flexible Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) layer directly over your existing structure. Installed between framing and gips boards, this barrier blocks both structure-borne and airborne sound frequencies. Ideal for apartments, offices under common areas, and any ceiling needing acoustic insulation beyond mineral wool. Installed with care to avoid air gaps, overlaps, or weak points – because in soundproofing, precision matters.

Service Ceiling Soundproofing Using MLV Membrane Includes:

  • Installation of Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) acoustic membrane – (typically 2–3 mm thick and weighing 3–5 kg/m²) offering excellent mass-based sound blocking
  • Precise full-ceiling coverage with custom cutting to minimize joints and ensure a flat, tension-free surface (overlapping is specifically avoided to maintain consistent thickness and avoid surface bulging under gips boards).
  • Secure mechanical fastening using appropriate methods per framing type – typically acoustic washers with screws spaced at 150–300 mm centers, ensuring full contact without tearing the membrane
  • Taping and sealing of all seams and perimeter using acoustic-grade foil or vinyl tape to prevent flanking noise and air/sound leaks
  • Integration with ceiling framing (wood or steel), allowing MLV to be sandwiched between framing and gips or other boards, or insulation layers without disruption
  • Electrical box cutouts can be sealed using acoustic putty pads or foam, preserving the membrane’s barrier performance around outlets or fixtures
  • Coordination with adjacent ceiling systems, such as insulation batts, suspended framing, or double-layer gips setups – to maintain airtight performance and acoustic integrity
